POWDER COATING
Powder coating creates an attractive, durable and long-lasting finish.
This surface is tougher than conventional paints, so it stands up to heavy use. That’s why you see it used widely for machinery, automotive and outdoor finishes. You’ll also find powder coating applied to windows and flyscreens sporting goods, garden furniture and more.
Powder coated surfaces give the same appearance from every angle. This sleek look is consistent over horizontal and vertical lines. It’s also useful for achieving a smooth, even result around moulded metal (think mag wheels), cut outs and small details.
Powder coating benefits
Powder coating makes metal look better and last longer. But there are many other reasons to choose this versatile treatment, including:
Solvent free
your finish is applied in powder form and cured with heat, so there are no nasty chemicals
Thicker, harder finish
the free flowing powder sets into a rich layer that’s longer-lasting than regular paint
Eco friendly
there’s no solvent to evaporate, so your finish releases few volatile organic compounds (VOC)
Uniform look
powder coated surfaces have a flawless look that’s identical on upright or level surfaces
Special effects
colour blending and unique finishes (like speckles) need only one curing to create a single layer
Cleaner
there’s none of the usual overspray, because paint powder simply falls away to be collected and reused
What can be powder coated?
This finish involves the spray application of free-flowing powder. Fine paint particles must grip the surface. So, whatever you powder coat should hold an electrostatic charge. It also needs to withstand the heat curing process. That makes powder coating a great choice to protect and beautify metal.
Steel, aluminium, stainless and most steel alloys can be powder coated. Tekcoat uses mild steel primer for external use and chromate coating for aluminium. We recommend surface pre-treatment to maximise finish life and performance, especially before applying coating for exterior use.
